Activities take off for 2020

Building on the hugely successful 2019 before- and after-school activities program, 2020 is set to be bigger and more diverse than ever

Last year, almost two-thirds of students participated in at least one activity organised by the P&C Association. And after extensive surveying of families, the BASA program is offering even more choices for children to get involved.

Cricket Blasters

Australia’s most popular game of bat-and-ball comes to Double Bay. Cricket Blasters is all about fun, friends and being part of a squad. Children learn new skills including catching, throwing and teamwork.

Dedicated professional coaches from Sports Kickstart are on hand to lead fun and fast-paced bat-and-ball activities specially designed for lower- and upper-primary children. The ‘big kids’ get their own game every week!

And it’s safe! Only rubber balls are used and plastic bats for the lower-primary children.

Filmmaking Fun

Through an interactive and hands-on approach, children engage with all the fundamentals of film production. Students learn techniques in creating action, suspense and comedy to then produce a film in term 2 for a mini-film festival.

It’s all ‘Lights, Cameras, Action!’ in these workshops that emphasise teamwork, collaboration and cooperation in a creative environment.

A two-term commitment is recommended for the children to maximise the video-creation skills they’ll acquire.

Fine Arts

Children are guided and taught drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpting techniques. They learn about art-making, taking inspiration from both their environment and famous artists alike.

Activities and projects are customised to each child, being aware of their individual capabilities and the skills of their age group. All children are guided step-by-step allowing them all to successfully complete their artworks.

Fine Arts is a 90-minute per-week program lead by a qualified primary-school teacher, Ms Laura Hamilton. Children are given extra time to focus on their artworks as well as accommodating the important tasks of setting up a space correctly and leaving it clean and tidy afterwards. The Registration Fee is inclusive of all materials used in the activity.
